Breaking with our ten-year tradition of heading to the Highlands for New Year (due to the arrival of several ‘Dufflings’), the Duffers instead spent a week in the more accessible hills of Snowdonia, staying in a large house near Caernarfon. My walks included old favourites on the Carneddau and Glyderau, a traverse of the Nantlle Ridge, and a few new Marilyns on the wetter, windier days!

I made an “emergency” weekend trip to the Brecon Beacons to re-complete my Nuttalls (English and Welsh 2000ft hills) following the recent promotion of Craig Gwaun Taf to the list. As well as the re-completion, I was rewarded with a spectacular cloud inversion around the high Beacons, and some snow on the tops. On the Sunday I bagged a few Marilyns on the western edge of the Black Mountains.

Some of the Duffers joined me for a typically wet Bank Holiday weekend in Snowdonia, camping by Llyn Gwynant. We did three fairly short walks: up Y Lliwedd on Saturday, to complete my Nuttalls on Mynydd Mawr on Sunday, and up the Great Orme from Llandudno on Monday.

Alex P and I spent three days backpacking in southern Snowdonia, tackling a strenuous 75km route from Harlech to Llanuwchllyn via the Rhinogs, Cadair Idris and the Arans. Hard work, but well worth the effort!

With sunny weather forecast for Wales, I decided today was an ideal opportunity for a day-trip to the Berwyn Hills to tick off four of my eight remaining Nuttalls. A great day in these attractive but quiet hills.

I met up with 15 other Old Duffers for a weekend in Snowdonia, staying in a cosy bunkhouse near Bethesda. We walked on the northern Glyderau on the Saturday and the northern Carneddau on the Sunday.

I spent a weekend in Snowdonia with a couple of colleagues (hillwalking novices!). On the Saturday we had a touristy day visiting Caernarfon Castle and the pumped-storage power station at Dinorwig. On the Sunday, we had perfect sunny weather for a walk up Snowdon, ascending via the Pyg Track with the hordes and then continuing round the Horseshoe over Y Lliwedd.

Presented with a good weather forecast and empty diary, I made an imprompto solo bagging trip to Mid-Wales! My walks were on Pegwn Mawr and Pen y Garn on Saturday, and on Pumlumon (Plynlimon) on Sunday.

I went to Snowdonia for DC’s stag weekend, based at the Snowdon House bunkhouse in Nant Peris. On the Saturday, we went on a ‘Go Below’ underground adventure in a disused slate mine in Cwm Penmachno, followed by a barbecue back at the bunkhouse. After a leisurely start on Sunday, we did a short walk up Y Garn and then visited a tea-shop in Llanberis before heading home.

I met up with eight other Duffers for a weekend in the west of the Brecon Beacons National Park, staying at Ynysmarchog Bunkhouse in Trecastle. Good walks on the Black Mountain on Saturday and above Heol Senni on Sunday allowed me to tick off all my remaining South-Welsh Nuttalls, and I also managed to fit in ascents of the Sugar Loaf on Friday evening and Ysgyryd Fawr on the way home!

To make the most of the sunny weather, I spent the weekend in the Brecon Beacons – my first visit since 2004! On Saturday I did a long-ish walk to tick off a few Nuttalls and Deweys in the east of the range. On Sunday I opted for a shorter walk near Storey Arms, so I could head home in time to watch Andy Murray triumph in the Wimbledon final.

The weather forecast was too good not to go to the hills, so I made an impromptu trip to Snowdonia. On Saturday, I did a long-ish walk from Bethesda over Carnedd Dafydd, Pen yr Ole Wen, Y Garn and Elidir Fawr. On Sunday, I did the classic traverse of Tryfan, Bristly Ridge and the Glyders, descending via Gallt yr Ogof. Brilliant warm sunshine throughout, and pretty good visibility too!

Ruth and I spent the Bank Holiday weekend in eastern Snowdonia. Based at a campsite near Bala, we climbed various obscure Nuttalls and Deweys in the Berwyn and Arenig ranges, encountering lots of heather but very few people! Good weather on the Monday made Rhobell Fawr the undoubted highilight of the trip.

I joined CUHWC for their weekend trip to Snowdonia, staying near Capel Curig (though I opted for the youth hostel at Betws-y-Coed). Despite showers on Saturday and low cloud on Sunday, I enjoyed two good walks, on the northern Moelwynion with Peter and on the southern Carneddau with Dave and Jo.

I joined a few friends from FoCUBB for a weekend in Welshpool. We spent Saturday at the nearby Country and Western Festival (of which Neil’s family are involved in the organisation). After a leisurely start on Sunday, we had a pub lunch in Melverley (just over the English border) and I had time for a little Marilyn bagging before the drive home!

I headed to Mid-Wales for the weekend to tick of some obscure Nuttalls, plus a few Deweys and Marilyns. On the Saturday, I walked in Radnor Forest, before heading to a bunkhouse near Rhayader for the night, followed by a Sunday walk in the Elan Valley.

I spent the Bank Holiday weekend with Will and Ruth in southern Snowdonia, staying in Dolgellau. We enjoyed good weather and excellent visibility for walks taking in many of the nearby hills, including Maesglase, Cadair Idris, the southern Rhinogs and the Tarrens.

We enjoyed warm, sunny weather for CUHWC’s Easter vacation trip to Snowdonia, staying once again in the Pinnacle Club hut in Cwm Dyli. I did two excellent and contrasting walks, taking in the Northern Rhinogs on Saturday and an unusual Snowdon horseshoe from Nant Gwynant on Sunday.

As I wanted to watch CUBB playing on tour in Birkenhead, I thought I’d make a day of it and do a walk in the Clwydian Range beforehand: a new area for me. Starting in the Alyn valley near Cilcain, I headed south along the Clwydian Way to Bryn Alyn, then crossed the valley to Moel Gyw and followed the main ridge all the way north to Penycloddiau, before heading back to Cilcain. An excellent day with some great views over North Wales, and six HuMPs bagged (including four Marilyns and two Deweys)!

I headed to southern Snowdonia for the weekend to join CUHWC in the Aran Hills. On the Saturday we had fantastic weather for a great linear walk from Cwm Cywarch to Bwlch y Groes via Aran Fawddwy and ten other less well-known Nuttalls. We enjoyed stunning views over much of North and Mid-Wales, with some amazing light conditions! On the Sunday we did a shorter walk from Dinas Mawddwy over the two Nuttalls and three Deweys at the southern end of the range.
