We then headed north to Achnasheen for a few days, starting with a wet and extremely windy walk up Moruisg. We then took advantage of a better weather window for a night’s backpacking with Alex T south of Glen Carron, visiting several remote Munros including Lurg Mhor.

Ruth and I started our Spring Bank Holiday week in the Highlands with a walk up the two Munros east of Drumochter Pass.

Today’s local walk from Grin Low Country Park took in a few baggable hills that I surprisingly hadn’t previously visited!

The final four days of the trip were spent in the south-west Highlands, where our walks included a traverse of the Ben Lui group, all four Munros in the Arrochar Alps, and Beinn Bhuidhe. Ruth joined us for all four days; DC and Mary for just one.

For the middle part of the week, Alex P joined us for a three-day bothy trip from Blair Atholl. On the first day we traversed Beinn a’ Ghlo then headed to the Tarf Hotel bothy. The next day we did two loops, south to Carn a’ Chlamain and north to the very remote Munros, Carn an Fhidleir and An Sgarsoch, returning to the Tarf Hotel for the night. On the final day we walked out via Beinn Dearg.

With Easter and the Royal Wedding falling on consecutive weekend, I had the opportunity to spend 11 days bagging in the Highlands for the price of just two days’ leave! For the first four days, I walked with Alison in Glen Lyon and Glen Lochay, where we visited a total of nine Munros.

Mum and Dad visited for a weekend. We walked in the Peak District both days, from Hartington and on Bleaklow.

The Old Duffers met up for a weekend in Snowdonia, walking on the Nantlle Ridge on the Saturday and up Snowdon and Yr Aran on the Sunday.

Alex P and I met up for a weekend in the quite Lake District valley of Dunnerdale. Our two good walks were in the Coniston Fells (where Ruth made a cameo appearance while supervising DofE) and Bow Fell.

I met up with the club for another weekend in Snowdonia. On the Saturday I did a Nuttall-bagging walk in the Moelwynion, and on the Sunday I tackled the Clogwyn y Person arete on Crib Goch.

Today’s local walk visited some of the less-known moorland areas around Bakewell, including Lees Moor and Longstone Moor.

I met up with CUHWC for a day in the Shropshire Hills. I nipped up The Wrekin before the group arrived, then walked around the Church Stretton skyline for the main walk of the day.

I joined CUHWC for a weekend in Swaledale, my first visit to the area. My walks included most of the surrounding Nuttalls, most significantly Rogan’s Seat, Great Shunner Fell and Nine Standards Rigg.

Ruth and I spent a weekend in the Black Mountains in the east of the Brecon Beacons National Park, doing two long horseshoe walks to visit most of the Nuttalls in the area.

We enjoyed excellent sunny weather for the first CUHWC weekend trip of the year, staying near Capel Curig. I did Snowdon both days: via the Horseshoe on Saturday and via Moel Eilio and the Llanberis path on Sunday.

For my first local walk of the year, I headed to the western edge of the Peak District for a walk taking in The Roaches, Shutlingsloe and Three Shire Heads. There were certainly lots of people out and about, walking and mountain biking – surprisingly many, given the rather grey weather!

Two years since my last visit, I returned to High House, at the very top of Borrowdale, for the weekend part of the club’s annual New Year trip to Seathwaite. The weather was rather grey but mostly dry for our walks to Great Gable and High Spy.

For this year’s Younger Duffers’ New Year trip, thirteen of us stayed at Kirkton Farmhouse, near Tyndrum. Though rather grey at times, the weather was dry and calm throughout, and we were able to climb Munros every day. I managed to bag eleven new ones, taking my total to 198.

I visited Ruth for another weekend in the hills. After attending the LRGS Carol Service on the Saturday morning, we just had time for a quick afternoon ascent of Ingleborough, from Ingleton. On the Sunday, we headed to Langdale, for a longer walk over Bowfell, Esk Pike, Scafell Pike and Great End. Excellent clear, sunny weather with some hard-frozen snow on the tops.
