My first tour with Cambridge University Brass Band was to the Liverpool/St Helens area. Over the four days, we enjoyed playing five successful concerts, and made visits to Chester and Liverpool.

I went on the last CUHWC trip of the term: a weekend in the Howgill Fells (western Yorkshire Dales) in Cumbria. We enjoyed walks on The Calf on Saturday, and Wild Boar Fell on Sunday. Lots of fun was also had in the snow and on the frozen hilltop lakes!

The first weekend trip of Lent term ’04 was to the Brecon Beacons National Park, staying at the South Wales Caving Club’s bunkhouse at Penwyllt. I spent Saturday walking on the Brecon Beacons, doing Pen y Fan, Corn Du, Cribyn and Fan y Big, and on Sunday four of us enjoyed an excellent walk on Black Mountain. Much time was also spent squeezing through improbably small gaps in benches, fences etc.: an activity befitting a weekend staying with cavers!

The CUHWC New Year trip went to Borrowdale in the Lake District, staying in the High House bunkhouse. Much wet weather was endured but did not spoil the excellent walks! N.B. On day 4 we ascended Lingmell and Scafell Pike, but it was too wet for photography!
