Crowden (4th September 2016)

With improving weather forecast, I headed to the far north of the Peak District to tick off my final three Derbyshire Tumps with two short walks near Glossop and a big loop north from Crowden.

Herefordshire Marilyns (28th-29th August 2016)

With no plans for the Sunday and Monday of the Bank Holiday weekend, I made a late decision to head to Herefordshire and bag a few Marilyns, camping in Kington for the night.

Massif Central (16th-19th August 2016)

Arolla (12th-15th August 2016)

For the second part of the holiday, we relocated to Arolla in the Swiss Valais Alps. Alex T joined us for a long weekend of easy mountaineering based at the Cabane des Dix, with Mont Blanc de Cheilon being the undoubted highlight.

Annecy (6th-11th August 2016)

For the first part of this year’s main summer holiday, Ruth and I spent a few days near Annecy in the Haute Savoie region of the French pre-Alps. Our excellent, mountainous walks included ascents of two nearby Ultras.

I spent a long weekend with my parents in Minehead. We walked in the Barle valley on Exmoor on the Friday and on the coast near Combe Martin on the Saturday.

The Duffers congregated in Buttermere for Ruth’s slightly belated 30th birthday weekend. The weather stayed mostly dry for good walks around the Buttermere skyline and on the Loweswater Fells.

Torridon, Applecross, Glen Elchaig and Glen Coe (28th May – 5th June 2016)

Ruth and I once again headed to the Highlands for some bagging over Spring Bank Holiday week. This year we were treated to excellent, dry, sunny weather in Torridon, Applecross, Glen Elchaig and Glen Coe. Fourteen new Corbetts for me: 117 down, 104 to go!

South Pennines (21st-22nd May 2016)

I spent a weekend exploring the South Pennines, ticking off the Marilyns of Hail Storm Hill (above Rossendale) and Freeholds Top (above Calderdale) and spending the night at YHA Mankinholes.

Bowland and Glenridding (14th-15th May 2016)

I headed northwest for a sunny weekend in the hills. On Saturday, I did a solo walk up White Fell in the Forest of Bowland, and on Sunday, I walked with Ruth over Helvellyn from Glenridding.

Upper Derwent Valley (8th May 2016)

For today’s walk I headed to the Upper Derwent Valley, starting at Ashopton and heading north over the moors and back down the valley beside the river and reservoirs. Summer is definitely on its way – temperatures reached 25C in the valley today.

Nuttall completion trip to Snowdonia (29th April – 2nd May 2016)

Some of the Duffers joined me for a typically wet Bank Holiday weekend in Snowdonia, camping by Llyn Gwynant. We did three fairly short walks: up Y Lliwedd on Saturday, to complete my Nuttalls on Mynydd Mawr on Sunday, and up the Great Orme from Llandudno on Monday.

North Downs and London (16th-17th April 2016)

I and a few other Duffers visited Alex and Caroline in Ewell (outer London) for the weekend. We walked on the North Downs on Saturday, and headed into London Sunday.
