Plymouth and Santander (29th-30th July 2018)

Ruth and I headed to northern Spain for the first part of this summer’s walking holiday. We opted to get there by taking the ferry from Plymouth to Santander – a 21-hour voyage! Before we set off we had an opportunity to visit a few familiar places in Plymouth.

Amiens (1st August 2015)

On the way home from the Alps we spent a few hours exploring Amiens, with its impressive cathedral and unusual ‘Hortillonages’ (island gardens).

Paris (19th-21st June 2015)

I spent a weekend in Paris with a few colleagues from Rolls-Royce. On the Saturday we visited the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, then headed into the city to explore Sacré-Coeur and Montmartre. On the Sunday, we walked from the Eiffel Tower to the Panthéon via most of the famous Parisian sights.

Berlin (13th April 2013)

A second three-week trip to Rolls-Royce Deutschland gave me a couple more free weekends in Germany. On the first Saturday, I visited a few more sights in Berlin.

Berlin (11th-28th March 2013)

I went on a three-week business trip to Rolls-Royce Deutschland to provide Thermals support for a new engine being developed there. I made the most of the two weekends to explore most of well-known landmarks in the city and surrounding area.

Climbing at the Castle (1st March 2008)

I spent another weekend in Cambridge, and on the Saturday went down to the Castle Climbing Centre in North London with some of the hillwalkers. This was the first roped climbing I’d done for several years, and the first time I’d driven inside the M25!
