I joined a few of the Duffers in Ambleside for the weekend, to catch up with Emily and her family who were here on holiday from the USA. We enjoyed good walks around the Scandale Horseshoe and over Loughrigg Fell, plus the obligatory pub dinners and visits to tea shops!

Ruth and I spent six days over the Easter weekend bagging Corbetts in Ardgour, an area of fine remote hills we had not previously visited due to its lack of Munros! Particularly memorable were a sunny walk in the Kingairloch hills, an inversion on Sgurr Dhumhnuill, and scrambling on Garbh Bheinn. Eight new Corbetts over the course of the trip took my total to 83.

I visited my parents in Minehead for a long weekend, and took a few photos on our local walks at Lynmouth, Dunster and Horner.

With sunny weather forecast for Wales, I decided today was an ideal opportunity for a day-trip to the Berwyn Hills to tick off four of my eight remaining Nuttalls. A great day in these attractive but quiet hills.

Lacking any other inspiration for where to walk today, I devised a loop south of Hartington to tick off two of my three remaining Peak District P30s. Starting on Alsop Moor, I headed up the Tissington Trail (with the two bagging diversions) and back down Beresford and Wolfscote Dales.

Today’s walk in the Dark Peak was less sunny than I’d hoped, but more snowy! I didn’t like the look of the steep snowy road over Mam Tor into Edale (my original intended start-point), so I headed instead to Hayfield for a short-ish loop of the eastern skyline. The low cloud persisted much of the way, but it was mostly clear from Kinder Downfall onwards.

A few of the southern Duffers visited me in Hilton for the weekend. We walked in the Cheshire Peak on Saturday, and in the Derwent Valley on Sunday.

A varied and mostly sunny long weekend based around a visit to Ian and Emma in Chester-le-Street. I broke the drive north on the Friday by bagging Yockenthwaite Moor, in Wharfedale. On the Saturday we pottered around Bamburgh on the Northumberland Coast. And on the Sunday I ticked off three more Nuttalls south of Weardale.

With good weather forecast for the Lake District, I persuaded Ruth to let me visit at short notice for a weekend of winter walking! We enjoyed two fantastic hill days with awesome snowy views, tackling the Easedale Horseshoe on Saturday and the Newlands Horseshoe on Sunday.

I headed up to Baslow for my first Peak District walk of 2015: a cold but sunny day for a circuit taking in Baslow and Curbar Edges, Eyam Moor and Longstone Edge.

I took a couple of hours’ stroll in the countryside west of Burton upon Trent, heading along the Trent and Mersey Canal and returning by a wooded ridge above Tatenhill.

For this year’s Duffers’ New Year trip, we headed to Glen Shiel, where we stayed in the spacious and comfortable Shiel Lodge. Two days of good weather to start the week made for excellent snowy walks on the South Shiel Ridge and the Five Sisters. The wetter, windier conditions that followed were still generally suitable for Corbett- and Graham-bagging. A super week!

We spent Christmas at my parents’ house in Minehead, taking local walks on Dunkery Beacon, Periton Hill and the seafront.

After completing my course at today’s orienteering event on Beacon Hill, I strolled back up to the summit to take a few photos in the sunshine!

The weather was rather grey and drizzly for my parents’ autumn visit to Derbyshire, but we still got a few good views on our walks in the Upper Derwent / Woodlands valleys and on Cannock Chase.

I met up with 15 other Old Duffers for a weekend in Snowdonia, staying in a cosy bunkhouse near Bethesda. We walked on the northern Glyderau on the Saturday and the northern Carneddau on the Sunday.

For the second half of my week’s holiday I headed to Müllheim in the Black Forest to visit Alex and Ausma. I walked locally on the Thursday, exploring the foothills of the Black Forest and the vineyards of the Rhein valley. Then on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday, we sought higher hills (all around 1400m) in the Vosges (France), Jura (Swizerland) and Black Forest (Germany)!

After a night in Carnforth, I had time for a morning walk up Pendle Hill, near Clitheroe, before heading to Manchester Airport for the next phase of my holiday!

We then spent three days Corbett-bagging in the Trossachs, staying at the independent hostel in Callander. Sunday and Monday were very wet and windy, so we opted for short, fast ascents of Beinn Each and Ben Ledi. Tuesday was drier and brighter for a longer walk up Benvane.
