Exploring another area of the White Peak that I had not previously visited, between Bakewell and Buxton, today’s walk started in Taddington. The highlight was the winding path along the gorge of Chee Dale, including some unusual stepping stones!

My parents visited me over the Bank Holiday weekend. We were just far enough north to avoid rain for walks on Stanton Moor, along The Roaches in Staffordshire, and through Lathkill Dale.

Hoping that the bogs would be relatively dry after the recent good weather, I headed up to the Dark Peak for a long-ish walk from Ladybower Reservoir. Notable landmarks on my route included Derwent Edge, Back Tor and Margery Hill.

A free weekend at home gave me time for two local walks. On Saturday, I went to the Staffordshire Moorlands, starting at Rocester and circumnavigating Alton Towers (at a fairly large radius!). On Sunday it was drizzly, so I opted for a short morning walk from Elton – I’d been meaning to visit Gratton and Long Dales for a while, but had struggled to combine them into a longer route so this was an ideal time.

My parents and sister visited me in Quarndon for the weekend. The recent fine weather continued for our walks at Stanage Edge and Harboro’ Rocks.

I took advantage of the lovely sunny weather to head into the Peak District for another excellent walk, this time starting at Baslow. My route took in Curbar and Froggatt Edges, Eyam Moor and some more of the Derwent Valley.

I joined the Notts Derby Walking Group (NDWG) for a day walk in Dovedale and the Manifold valley.

Another Sunday walk in the Derbyshire Dales, in cold but dry weather. My route from Ambergate took in Shining Cliff, part of the Midshires Way, Cromford Moor and Alport Height.

I went for a morning walk with John Snow, who I’d chatted to in the intervals of a couple of the classical concerts I’ve been to at the Derby Assembly Rooms. He chose a circular route from Ambergate, taking in Crich and the Cromford Canal.

I went for another day walk in the White Peak, this time starting in Alport. My route took in Lathkill Dale, Bakewell and Calton Pastures.

Today’s slightly disappointing morning walk was a circumnavigation of Carsington Water, with a short detour to a nearby hill marked as ‘The Mountain’ on the map! Neither landmark was as interesting as I’d hoped, but at least the rain held off!

I met up with Simon for a day’s walking in the White Peak. Starting in Hartington, we walked down Beresford and Wolfscote Dales, then west over Wetton Hill. After exploring Thor’s Cave, we returned to the car via the Manifold valley.

Now that I live in Quarndon, just north of Derby (having started my first full time job, as a Thermofluids Technologist with Rolls-Royce, a couple of weeks ago), the Peak District is just a short drive away. I did a ten-mile walk exploring the dales near the SE corner of the national park. My circular route from the village of Elton took me through Middleton Dale, Youlgreave, Stanton-in-Peak and Stanton Moor.
