The weather was hot and hazy today for my walk in the Dark Peak. Starting at Alport Bridge, I walked to Bleaklow via Cowms Rocks and Higher Shelf Stones, returning via Grinah Stones and Alport Castles.

Today’s local walk was on the western edge of the Peak District, starting in Chinley and taking in most of the hills on the Hayfield skyline. Sunny spells and excellent visibility made for some great views.

My parents spent another weekend with me in Hilton. We walked around Edale on the Saturday and went for a short stroll near Alton on the Sunday.

I went for a brisk Bank Holiday morning walk along parts of the Dove and Manifold valleys in the White Peak, and through the surrounding countryside, starting in Hartington.

My parents visited me in Hilton for a few days. At the weekend, we enjoyed the continuing good weather on a couple of walks in the Peak District. On the Saturday, we walked to Shutlingsloe and Three Shire Heads from Macclesfield Forest, and on the Sunday to Parkhouse Hill and Chrome Hill from Longnor.

I took advantage of the warm, sunny weather for a walk in the Dark Peak, starting by Ladybower Reservoir. My route took in Crook Hill, Alport Castles, Blackden Brook and Win Hill.

Ruth visited me in Hilton for Saturday night and Sunday. We enjoyed a walk on some of the eastern Peak District Edges – White, Froggatt, Curbar and Baslow.

I took advantage of a crisp, clear, sunny winter’s day for a walk onto Kinder Scout from Edale, walking most of the perimeter of the plateau as well as visiting, for the first time, its highest point.

Ruth visited me in Derby for Edale weekend. On the Saturday, we walked in the Staffordshire Peak, taking in The Roaches, Gun and Tittesworth Reservoir.

There were sunny spells and clear views for my first local walk of October, starting in Curbar, and I enjoyed the early-autumn colours of the trees and bracken. My route took in Froggatt Edge, Higger Tor, Abney Moor and Eyam.

Today’s local walk was through the limestone country of the White Peak. I started in Alport and headed up Lathkill Dale, returning via Deep Dale, Ashford in the Water, Bakewell and Haddon Park.

I headed to the High Peak Estate for a walk starting near the Snake Pass Inn. My route went up to the Kinder plateau, then followed the Pennine Way north to Higher Shelf Stones and Bleaklow.

At the start of her summer holidays, Ruth visited me in Derby for the weekend. On the Saturday, we walked on the western edge of the Peak District, over Shutlingsloe (third time lucky for me!), Shining Tor and Tegg’s Nose. On Sunday morning, we did a shorter walk on some of my local footpaths around Quarndon.
