As the CUHWC Annual Dinner was conveniently arranged for a Friday evening, I headed down to Cambridge for the weekend, staying at Michael’s house in Cambourne. The dinner was held in the Prioress’s Room at Jesus College, followed by drinks in The Maypole.

I went down to Cambridge for the start of May Week. On the Saturday it was the CUHWC Garden Party (at Newnham) and overnight punting. Thanks to the Social Secretaries for all their hard work!

The CUHWC Garden Party was conveniently scheduled for a Saturday, so I went down to Cambridge for a weekend of May Week fun. The party was held at Newnham, and followed by the traditional overnight punting trip to Grantchester.

I went down to Cambridge for the CUBB Annual Dinner, held this year at Trinity Hall. Inkeeping with tradition, we went punting along the Backs in the afternoon before the meal.

I went down to Cambridge for a night for the hillwalkers’ Annual Dinner, held this year in St John’s College. We enjoyed an excellent four course meal, followed by after dinner speeches by the outgone, outgoing and incoming presidents! We then went for cocktails in the Maypole, and finally retired to Marianne’s room for the usual singing and fun!

Taking another, longer trip in my car, Alex, Ruth, Jack and I went to the Norfolk Broads – the only National Park in England and Wales that I hadn’t visited before!

I wanted to drive somewhere in my new car, so Alex, Ruth, Jack and I spent a morning at Shepreth Wildlife Park, followed by a pub lunch in Barrington.

During the ‘CUHWC Fun Day’, we climbed St John’s Chapel Tower, which gave excellent views over Cambridge.

This year’s CUHWC Garden Party was held at Robinson College, in the gardens until it rained, and then in the ‘basement’! Afterwards we had the traditional night punting, and barbecue on Grantchester Meadows.

After handing in my final project report, I wanted to do an afternoon walk to get out in the fresh air. I hadn’t visited the Cambridge American Cemetery before, so I incorporated it into a circular route north-west of Cambridge.

The first hillwalking formal of Lent term was at Robinson. Afterwards we went to Robinson bar, Emma’s room, Gardies, and finally Alex’s room. The next morning there was a dusting of snow so I took a few photos of Westminster College.

This year my room is in Westminster College – it’s just off the Queen’s Road / Madingley Road mini-roundabout for anyone who wasn’t sure. Renovation of some staircases in Christ’s during the Bradwell’s Court redevelopment meant they had to look elsewhere for fourth-year accommodation. Here are a few photos of the College and my room, taken the morning after I moved in.

The band met for numerous events in May Week – here are a few photos of a punting trip along the Backs, curry at the Kohinoor, and Wolfson June Event.

A few hillwalkers decided to make the most of Emily’s last full day in Cambridge, starting with an uncomfortable night in Alison’s very own bunkhouse! This was followed by sunrise-watching on Castle Mound (no photos), a trip to the University Library (again, no photos), punting along the Backs, and fajitas in Alison’s kitchen.

Gordon invited the hillwalkers to visit his house in Fen Drayton for an afternoon walk around the surrounding fens and nature reserve, and a barbecue in the evening.
