I spent the weekend orienteering in the Lake District, training with DVO on Eycott Hill on Saturday and taking part in a Border Liners event on Fauld’s Brow on Sunday. No photos of either, but I did take a few to record my opportunistic ascents of a HuMP and a Marilyn!

Unusually spending a Bank Holiday weekend at home, I decided to focus my walks on ticking off some obscure local Tumps (P30s). I’ve now visited 108 out of 127 in Derbyshire.

On the way home from the Alps we spent a few hours exploring Amiens, with its impressive cathedral and unusual ‘Hortillonages’ (island gardens).

For the second half of the holiday we moved the other side of Mont Blanc, to Argentière in the Chamonix valley. The weather was a little cooler than it had been in Italy but we still had several sunny days’ for more super walking through awesome scenery!

Today’s walk from Kirk Ireton took in a few P30s that I hadn’t previously visited near Carsington Water, circumnavigating the lake at a distance.

Today’s local walk was in the Staffordshire Peak. Starting near Upper Hulme, I followed the Roaches ridge to Danebridge, continued up the Dane Valley to Flash, then looped back to the east via Merryton Low.

For the first week of this year’s summer holiday in the Alps, Ruth and I were joined by the Patricks in Val di Rhêmes, from where we explored parts of the Gran Paradiso National Park and Valle d’Aosta. Unusually hot weather was great for walking but kept us off any snow routes!

I spent a weekend in Paris with a few colleagues from Rolls-Royce. On the Saturday we visited the Paris Air Show at Le Bourget, then headed into the city to explore Sacré-Coeur and Montmartre. On the Sunday, we walked from the Eiffel Tower to the Panthéon via most of the famous Parisian sights.

My parents visited for the weekend. As the forecast was poor, we opted for the mainly-indoor option of visiting the Heights of Abraham, above Matlock Bath.

Bright and breezy today in the White Peak: perfect for trying out my new car on some country roads and a circular walk from Ashford in the Water.

Ruth and I spent the rest of the week Corbett-bagging in the far northwest, based in Scourie. Arkle and Foinaven were the definite highlights of a rather grey and showery week.

Many hillwalking friends convened in the Trossachs for Spring Bank Holiday weekend to join Ruth in celebrating her 282nd and final Munro, Ben Lomond. This was preceded by a day in the Arrochar Alps, and followed by a walk up the nearby Corbett of Beinn a’ Choin.

Today’s walk in the heart of the Peak District started in Hope village and followed the skyline over Lose Hill, Mam Tor, Old Moor, Bradwell Edge, Offerton Moor and Win Hill.

On the Sunday, we visited Rannerdale to see the bluebells, followed by pub lunch in Loweswater. Then I went for a solo walk up Mellbreak before the drive home!

I spent Bank Holiday Monday walking in the North Pennines, where my route onto Cross Fell from Garrigill took in three of my four unbagged Nuttalls.

I joined a few of the Duffers in Ambleside for the weekend, to catch up with Emily and her family who were here on holiday from the USA. We enjoyed good walks around the Scandale Horseshoe and over Loughrigg Fell, plus the obligatory pub dinners and visits to tea shops!
