It was more than a month since my last walk so, having seen the good forecast, I was keen to get out in the Peak District for the morning, before an afternoon band concert. I headed to the lower reaches of Dovedale, starting in Blore and taking in various minor summits around the rim of the valley.

I visited Alison in Menai Bridge for the weekend. We did a Nuttall-bagging walk on the Northern Carneddau on the Saturday, and a Marilyn-bagging walk on the Lleyn Peninsula on the Sunday.

We ended the week with a three-day backpacking expedition into the Fisherfield and Letterewe Forests, unconventionally approaching these spectacular hills from Kinlochewe. Our memorable route included the Fisherfield Six, a couple of Corbetts, and Slioch.

We then headed north to Achnasheen for a few days, starting with a wet and extremely windy walk up Moruisg. We then took advantage of a better weather window for a night’s backpacking with Alex T south of Glen Carron, visiting several remote Munros including Lurg Mhor.

The final four days of the trip were spent in the south-west Highlands, where our walks included a traverse of the Ben Lui group, all four Munros in the Arrochar Alps, and Beinn Bhuidhe. Ruth joined us for all four days; DC and Mary for just one.

For the middle part of the week, Alex P joined us for a three-day bothy trip from Blair Atholl. On the first day we traversed Beinn a’ Ghlo then headed to the Tarf Hotel bothy. The next day we did two loops, south to Carn a’ Chlamain and north to the very remote Munros, Carn an Fhidleir and An Sgarsoch, returning to the Tarf Hotel for the night. On the final day we walked out via Beinn Dearg.

With Easter and the Royal Wedding falling on consecutive weekend, I had the opportunity to spend 11 days bagging in the Highlands for the price of just two days’ leave! For the first four days, I walked with Alison in Glen Lyon and Glen Lochay, where we visited a total of nine Munros.
